Faces Places
Before seeing Faces Places, I did not know anything about Agnès Varda, but I have done some research on JR and his projects seen around the world. I think this film centers so much around the working class because people tend to not notice how hard-working those in the working class are, so I believe this film is made to honor them and give them the attention they need. I did have an experience of having a shared interest with someone else, it happens whenever I hang out with one of my best friends. Sometimes when we’re at the mall together, we often share some thoughts on our lives and how we find some images that we both like. I don’t often see public art, but when I do, I find it very interesting because it is something I don’t see everyday and that mesmerizes me. As for guerrilla-style street art, I haven’t really come across this style of art, but based on what I see on the internet, I find some I can relate to and some I can’t. I think I identify more with JR because he is a photographer and street artist and whatever art or photograph he does, I feel I can relate to. JR is also shown to be supportive, hard-working, and very passionate, furthermore he is always found to be wearing his hat and sunglasses which creates a mysterious image of him as well as a hook for people on what he’s going to do next.
The aspect of images being used to bring up memories affected me deeply. Whenever I look at pictures of my dead brother, I remember how nice it was having him around, how much I cared about him, and how much of an impact it had on my family when he died. The fact that Varda keeps mentioning her age in different ways makes me feel like she’s very confident within herself and that makes me feel proud because she’s showing that age should not stop one from working hard. When JR finally removed his sunglasses to console Varda, I felt happy because JR has shown that he is Varda’s friend and a true friend would support the one who feels upset and give them the confidence they need. The very breezy feeling is achieved through precise camera work and a whole lot of practice to make sure everything is how it should be and that everyone is comfortable while filming the Faces Places film. The aspect of Faces Places I found memorable was when JR and Varda made photos and works of art to help the working class be recognized for who they are. I found it memorable because the world doesn’t seem to notice anyone in the working-class doing what they usually do. It's an issue that definitely needs to be put in action so those that are in the working-class will get the honors they need.
