Alexa Meade

Image
Alexa Meade is an artist and photographer who has made a unique way of combining art with photography. She does this by painting on human bodies and also the backgrounds before photographing them which give an illusion of different dimensions. This kind of technique is known as trompe l’oeil, a style of art first developed in ancient Greece, but the name itself originated in France. The term can be defined as a painting style which depicts realistic details from photography. Meade’s work of art looks so real that in the photograph it stands out more than other people in the photo. In her photography she paints on people and photographs them in a way that they look like statues. Each piece of art exhibits a different story based on the backgrounds and the color the subjects have been painted. Meade paints the backgrounds in a way that gives an illusion of different dimensions that go beyond our Mundane 3D world, which might have been inspired by supernatural shows. In addition to people...

DANA SCRUGGS      Dana Scruggs is a photographer and director who is known for focusing her work on movement, abstraction, and evoking emotions based on the bodily form of her subjects. She became a photographer while she was going through a time of severe depression. In her career, she made photography a collaborative process between herself and the subject. For example, in her photograph of Mecca Mozelle, the photographer gives the subject the opportunity to show off their emotions by using different facial expressions and poses. The subject within the picture wears different colored makeup to different backgrounds to help create the mood of the photo. All the specific elements of the visual outcomes from the photos became statements within her work. One statement within her work appears on the cover of an issue of The Washington Post magazine where there is a picture of activist Stacey Abrams covering her eye with an emblem of the US flag. This shows that Abrams is con...

Faces Places

Image
Before seeing Faces Places, I did not know anything about Agnès Varda, but I have done some research on JR and his projects seen around the world. I think this film centers so much around the working class because people tend to not notice how hard-working those in the working class are, so I believe this film is made to honor them and give them the attention they need. I did have an experience of having a shared interest with someone else, it happens whenever I hang out with one of my best friends. Sometimes when we’re at the mall together, we often share some thoughts on our lives and how we find some images that we both like. I don’t often see public art, but when I do, I find it very interesting because it is something I don’t see everyday and that mesmerizes me. As for guerrilla-style street art, I haven’t really come across this style of art, but based on what I see on the internet, I find some I can relate to and some I can’t. I think I identify more with JR b...
